The Book of Dharma: Making Enlightened Choices
March 21, 2013 (VNN) – A “PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT” BOOK IN THE BHAKTI TRADITION
The Book of Dharma is a new entry-level book designed to attract readers to Bhakti-yoga and the teachings of Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita. Written by Sundar Gopal das (Simon Haas), the book is in the popular “personal development” genre, but squarely within our Vaisnava tradition. It tries to meet readers where they are at and create a “cultural bridge” for them to the gem-like books of our Vaisnava acaryas, especially Jaiva-dharma.
The Book of Dharma is already available in certain retail outlets in the UK, such as the prestigious store Jarrold. Look out for it this summer in outlets like Waterstones, Watkins and WHSmith. You can also order the book on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk (Amazon has a “LOOK INSIDE” feature). A Kindle edition will be coming out before the end of the month, too.
For many years, devotees have recognized the need for introductory books like The Book of Dharma, which present Bhakti-yoga in an accessible, attractive way for contemporary Western readers. Meticulously based in sastra, the book uses a highly popular genre to share the teachings of the Vaisnava tradition as widely as possible.
