Govinda's Vegetarian Restaurant In Singapore

BY R. JAI SIMMAN

SINGAPORE, Aug 3 (VNN) — Devotees Open 2nd Branch of Govinda's Vegetarian Restaurant in Singapore

Devotees here in Singapore have opened a pure vegetarian restaurant along Serangoon Road, one of the hottest tourist spots on the island. Known for its rich Indian cultural history, Serangoon Road is also known as "Little India". Many Indian traditional businesses operate here and the opening of the restaurant named "Govinda's" is yet another hallmark in the preaching of Krishna Consciousness in this Southeast Asian state.

Govinda's will operate 7 days a week from 8 am to 10 pm and will serve all the 3 important meals of the day, namely breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The official opening ceremony will be held on 01 August 1999 (Sunday) at 11 am. All devotees are invited to attend the ceremony, participate in the kirtan and pray to Lord Sri Krishna for the success of the restaurant.

Future plans include the setting up of a Vaishnava books and souvenir shop that will distribute Srila Prabhupada's books in the restaurant. Also on the pipeline are the expansion of the existing "Food for Life" prasadam distribution programme in Serangoon Road and to all folks' and children's homes.

The Singapore Yatra already runs another branch of Govinda's at Orchard Road, yet another central hotspot in Singapore.

The opening of the second branch represents yet another leap forward in the propagation of Krishna Consciousness in Singapore. That the restaurant is opening amidst the recession in Southeast Asia and the problems that devotees have had to face due to their adopting the ritvik option shows that Srila Prabhupada's mercy is very much with them. Book distribution and prasadam distribution are going full steam ahead and the opening of the new restaurant is giving renewed enthusiasm to all devotees in Singapore.
