WORLD July 8, 1999 VNN4253 Comment on this story ISKCON Cable Enterprises Update BY JAGAT-TRAYA DASA USA, Jul 8 (VNN) — The state of Krsna-conscious broadcast TV is still going through prognosis. In other words, we do not know exactly how much is going on out there in the KC broadcast area. Vrin Parker did post some info on this but we are pretty sure there are others out there doing this sort of thing right now. The question is, how many? We are trying to bridge the gap between ITV and the rest of the planet as much as possible. Iskcon Cable Enterprises (ICE) is currently operating on a shoestring budget so we are looking for all devotees who can help us put Krsna on TV, in every town and village if possible. We feel that despite the raging ritvik controversy devotional service must continue and expand. The ICE www-site was compiled in order to create an agency that offers opportunities to devotees who want devotional service, but can't find anything sustainable for themselves, and is non-political in its bhakti-yoga. Our number one mistake in this pursuance was the statement that all cable companies took only 3/4 inch tapes and not 1/2 inch VHS size. All this information has now been upgraded. We apologize for any deficiencies that the ICE www-site may contain. We will upgrade this www-site on a monthly basis at least, depending on what kind of input we get. We at Iskcon Cable Enterprises remind all devotees that Srila Prabhupada was always delighted any time he knew devotees, etc. were on TV. He was very aware of the potential of TV media and probably foresaw the need for expansion on this front. Let's try and increase his pleasure in this vital preaching area. At the present we believe that cable TV-based Krsna-conscious broadcasting is currently reaching less than 5% of the potential viewing audience. We fear that the real number may be below 2% in actuality, but we don't know. So please keep those reports coming in and we'll post them as soon as we can.
