Iskcon Communications Launches New Internet Site

BY JAGAT-TRAYA DAS

USA, Jun 27 (VNN) — If you like to see Krsna conscious events on TV, but are disappointed at the amount of broadcast time that is allotted to devotees, then you should check out IC's newest Website. It is a project of theirs that is totally devoted to helping devotees find ways of putting Krsna conscious videos on television. There are tons of archival footage, various tapes, shows, Srila Prabhupada lectures, Cooking with Kurma, etc. but very little of it every really gets broadcast on live karmi TV. The problem has been more due to unawareness of the real potential of cable TV, than public interest, or any other reason.

However, that is now about to change. Iskcon Cable Enterprises (ICE) website is designed to help the temple, preaching center, or even the average congregational member at large produce tv shows, for free! The trick is doing it through Public Access Television, which is a by-product of Cable TV. All Cable TV broadcasting companies must have a channel available to non-profit organizations, according to U.S. Federal Law. You just give them a pre-made video tape (3/4 inch size), which are different than regular 1/2 inch size VHS tapes and they will broadcast your half hour show weekly, for no charge at all. The cable station authorities cannot, legally discriminate against any sort of religious group, etc. The various intricacies are explained in the website.

Of course, you do need a little money to buy the 3/4 inch tapes outright from ITV, where each one cost about $30 individually, but ICE hopes to receive enough interest in this activity to start buying the tapes wholesale from ITV, then disseminate them to all investing parties. The tapes will be rotated in and out of service periodically, at the same time buying up new allotments of broadcast material. After a while, ICE hopes to have enough tapes to bring down prices to near zero. IN the beginning, wholesale tapes should run around $10 each. ICE hopes to have other projects as a spinoff of all this. Also, a ICE conference will be planned for around fall, if enough interest is generated by this website. So if you want to help put Krishna on tv for free, please check out IC's new cable tv website.

The Iskcon Cable Enterprises Website, utilizing free cyber-space, can be found at http://www.geocities.com/athens/atlantis/4746. ICE hopes to start providing info on free tv access outside the U.S. as soon as possible.

Jaya Srila Prabhupada!
