Sapta Svarah
BY DASANUDAS VANACARI
USA, Jun 21 (VNN) Dear Prabhus, Hare Krsna! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada!
I am a disciple of Srila Prabhupada who spent many years in India doing devotional service in the Holy Dhams and researching the Vaisnava musical tradition.
In 1985-88 I was co-chairman (along with Sriman Mathura das Prabhu) of the Music Department at Bhaktivedanta Gurukula in Sridham Mayapur. This was the last post I held in ISKCON, and it was a great blessing. In Mayapur I was benedicted with great association and inspiration. By the grace of Srila Prabhupada and Lord Caitanya I understood the inner truths of the science of Vaisnava music and composed an extended essay on the subject. The title and contents of that essay were inspired by just two words in Srimad-Bhagavatam: Sapta Svarah.
Since those days I have thought deeply about what I learned and experienced. I have developed a musical composition system based solidly on Vedic musical science combined with the methodology of the German composer Paul Hindemith. This led to the composition of a transcendental work on the pastimes of Radha-Krsna in Goloka Vrndavan based on the asta-kalia-lila presented by Srila Krsnadas Kaviraj Gosvami in his Govinda Lilamrta.
Now by the grace of the Lord, these 36 CDs of transcendental music are about to be produced and distributed worldwide. Through the mercy of some sympathetic devotees and Indian businessmen, we are forming a limited partnership venture to support the recording and publicity expenses for the Vrndavan-lila series. Any devotees who want to get involved in this exciting transcendental creative venture--or old friends who just want to offer encouragement--please contact me by email at dbhughes@mindspring.com
