WORLD May 2, 1999 VNN3765 Srila BP Puri Maharaja Health Report #4 BY RAMDAS DAS INDIA, May 2 (VNN) — Dear vaishnavas, 5.1.99 2:00 pm India time By the grace of our merciful guardians, I am happy to report to you all that the condition of His Divine Grace Pujapada Bhakti Promode Puri Goswami Maharaja continues to improve. Below is a brief update on his condition. Our Guru Maharaja has now been in Calcutta in the special clinic for more than 48 hours. His condition is stable and has improved significantly since his arrival in Calcutta. His Divine Grace is still chanting regularly and has now also been taking some rest. He is only taking a liquid diet and is still on an i.v. He is being visited by devotees and seems able to recognize them, but still is not speaking accept to chant the Holy Names of the Lord. Srila Guru Maharaja is still not eating any solid foods. His intimate disciple and successor, Sripad Bhakti Bibudha Bodhayan Maharaja, is now serving our Guru Maharaja and meeting with his doctors. There will be a more thorough report from the doctors in another 12 hours. We will update you again at that time. When Sripad Bodhayan Maharaja arrived, Guru Maharaja recognized his voice and was holding his arm to speak to him, but was not able to at the time. It is believed that the result of the stroke has temporarily impaired his speech and will still take some more days to return to normal. This could take up to two weeks according to one doctor, but no one really knows for sure, it depends on the Lord and the sincere prayers of all you wonderful Vaishanavas who are praying for Guru Maharaja with such sincerity. This is really the only medicine which will help as Guru Maharaja has intimated to the devotees. It is too early to tell at this time how long these conditions will last. What is amazing everyone is that Guru Maharaja continues to chant, even though his normal speech seems to be impaired. Sripad Bodhayan Maharaja confided that Guru Maharaja's health has improved approximately 50% from the time of the stroke and is improving gradually. He feels that Guru Maharaja will make a full recovery after some time. It seems that the Lord is blessing us all with the divine presence of Sila Guru Maharaja in this world for more time to come. I pray to all of you that you may continue your ardent prayers for the successful recovery of His Divine Grace as you are undoubtedly blessed by the Lord for all your sincere endeavors in the service of Sriman Mahaprabhu.
