WORLD April 30, 1999 VNN3748 Srila BP Puri Maharaja Health Report #3 BY RAMDAS DAS INDIA, Apr 30 (VNN) — Dear kind hearted devotees, Please accept the obeisances of this fallen soul. I pray to the Lord that I may never make any offenses to the lotus feet of the vaishnavas. This is a brief update on the condition of His Divine Grace Pujapad Bhakti Promode Puri Goswami Maharaja. Our Guru Maharaja has now safely arrived in Calcutta and has been admitted to a very good hospital there. This hospital is not an ordinary hospital, but a special care facility where patients are given special treatment and care. There was no difficulty in the trip and Guru Maharaja's condition has improved. Upon arriving in Calcutta Maharaja asked "Have we reached Calcutta" and is apparently aware of his external surroundings while remaining deeply absorbed in His internal bhajan. Upon reaching the hospital he was immediately taken for a cat scan of his brain and head. The results we have received so far are good as they revealed no hemorrhage, no brain clot, and the prognosis is that he had cerebral thrombosis, or a stroke only. There is also no paralysis which is often the case in stroke patients. The doctors are just beginning to administer some treatment now and we will keep you all informed of the results as Guru Maharaja's condition progresses. All the time at the hospital Guru Maharaja was loudly chanting the Holy Name clearly and it is has all been recorded. Occasionally he is also speaking some Krishna katha while still remaining submerged in his own internal bhajan. The doctors have been quite amazed to see Srila Guru Maharaja and observe his condition. They have dealt with hundreds of stroke patients and they have never seen some one chanting the Holy Name of the Lord constantly like this. Even in this situation Guru Maharaja is preaching through His example and changing the hearts and minds of those without faith in Krishna and the sublime power of His Holy Name. They are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to observe a pure devotee in deep samadhi and absorption in the Holy Name. Krishna is revealing to them the difference between a pure Vaishnava and an ordinary person in a way which they can be convicted by. Guru Maharaja's main doctor is a close friend of one of our godbrothers and is treating Guru Maharaja as a disciple would with great respect, care, and attention. He is a leading neurologist and is famous in his field. Guru Maharaja's servants are with him constantly and making sure that all his needs are met. Originally Guru Maharaja was to remain in intensive care for several days, but he has been switched to a normal room which is also a very good sign. We will hear more results in the morning in India as the doctors will diagnose the effects of the treatment. We will keep you informed. We beg you to continue your heart-felt prayers for the recovery of our Guru Maharaja and pray that these reports are giving you some idea of the transcendental nature of the life of our Guru Maharaja. It is not possible to express the spiritual impression that Guru Maharaja's darsan is having on those around him, but all are deeply moved by his unflinching faith in the Holy Name and his extraordinary absorption in nama bhajan.
