HH Gopal Krishna Goswami made a statement at the ICC meeting held in Vrindavan that the GBC was threatened by the Russian Mafia and that if they did not pay the money, some of the ISKCON leaders would be exterminated. When questioned that the Russian Mafia may continue to extort in the future more money from ISKCON by making further threats, Maharaj replied quite confidently that the Russian Mafias were quite honorable and they didn't break their agreements. Maharaj continued that there was a silver lining in this that some of the guru's lives were saved and the Russian Mafia returned the BBT books previously taken from the temple in Russia.
