Harinam Sankirtana Manual

BY LOCANANANDA DAS

USA, Dec 29 (VNN) — "As the devotees chanted the Holy Names, tears fell in great ecstasy like rainfall from their eyes. When the sankirtana resounded, it filled the three worlds. Indeed, no one could hear mundane sounds or musical instruments other than the sankirtana." (Cc. Madhya 13.49-50)

In pursuance of the order of Lord Caitanya, the devotees of the Krishna Consciousness movement should try to introduce the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra throughout the world. It is only by chanting Hare Krishna that one may get free from the disease of forgetfulness of Krishna, which is the root cause of all suffering. However one is situated, whether one is single, married or renounced, one should have the determination to go out and preach Krishna consciousness. That was the instruction of our spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

"We are saying that this Hare Krishna maha-mantra can save everyone, and we are therefore distributing it publicly, free of charge... The devotees are preaching without charge, declaring in the streets, parks, and everywhere. "Here! Here is the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. Come on, take it!" (POP p. 72)

To encourage the public chanting of the Holy Name by the followers of Srila Prabhupada, His Holiness Indradyumna Swami is compiling a publication entitled the Harinam Sankirtana Manual. This book will be distributed to devotees worldwide and will include pertinent quotes from Srila Prabhupada emphasizing the urgency of introducing the chanting of Hare Krishna everywhere. To complete this project, Maharaja would like to include statements from devotees around the world expressing their own realizations regarding the importance of public chanting.

If you would like to submit a statement that you think would inspire devotees to perform sankirtana, the complete glorification of the Holy Name, please write to me at: LFELDA@aol.com. We are interested in sankirtana stories, Srila Prabhupada nectar, and any recommendations you may have for the book. Since we are working with a deadline that is fast approaching, try to send your article by January 10th, 1999. Submissions not included in the first edition will be held for a future enlarged edition of the manual. And please be sure to mention the city and country you are writing from. Thanking you in advance, I beg to remain.

Your servant,
Locanananda Das
