WORLD December 19, 1998 VNN2707 See Related VNN Stories Y2K And Mass Prasadam Distribution BY PAPAHARINI DEVI DASI USA, Dec 19 (VNN) — Dear Devotees: I would like to make a transcendental, non partisan (Ritvik/anti- Ritvik) proposal that is urgently needed for the world- wide membership of Vaisnavas. Regardless of personal or collective philosophical bents, we may set all of our differences aside as we greet our approaching millennium bug. Regardless of some systems reaching compliance this next year, this will have another aspect to it that we can utilize as Krsna's mercy. The guaranteed, non-speculative piece of the Y2K dilemma is the breakdown of Embedded Systems*(August of '99-see below). As well as gasoline, heating oil, groceries/produce shipment, electrical grid and water (try Los Angeles without the pumped water from the Colorado River) supplies will likely be interrupted. NONPARTISAN BEHAVIOR OR STAND IN LINES... My proposal, universally acceptable to all devotees, is to organize committees both collectively and locally to construct and pitch a thoughtful, intelligent offer to the United States directors for the Red Cross, Fema, United Way and any other nationally organized/internationally linked public welfare institutions- THAT VAISHNAVAS WILL PREPARE AND DISTRIBUTE PRASADAM to all peoples in need, on a mass scale. Churches have been, since their inception, social service providers of counseling and food for the needy, downtrodden, abused, seniors, etc. As Prabhupada's practical logic reminded us- a hungry man has no ears to hear philosophy- we should urgently but carefully plan to unite as the Sankirtan Movement by the distribution of prasadam. USDA Food Bank commodities may be obtained on a mass scale if we can document an agreement with the proposed agencies' recognition. We have the practical example of rural life in India- cooking large quantities in pots on open fire pits- some of the greatest prasadam I've ever had was cooked and served on the side of the road in Douji. Time is running out, we have this next seven months only. AUGUST OF 1999- NOT DECEMBER 31ST, 1999. By now many people all over the world are becoming aware of the approaching mystery for the millennium bug. Although the buzz is usually referring to Y2K or year 2000 as the meltdown of government and communication systems, the actual month to be concerned about is AUGUST '99. At this time the GSA- global satellite location finders that are widely used to uplink receivers to telephone, television and missile guidance tracking (see The Bug in the Bomb for further information about automatic nuclear launch) are said to be targets of this crash. This will happen BEFORE the rest of computer linked service interruption. All money savings should be cashed out before August. Long lines are being anticipated. EMBEDDED SYSTEMS *Another subject for study is "Embedded Systems" that can be found on various sites- especially C-SPAN 1 and 2 government channels or websites. Loss of faith in the government when the public recognizes that the US has so far been negligent (opinion of University researchers assigned to the problem) in giving contingency plans and preparation methods to the public. Loss of welfare checks, social security income, social security pensions, Medical insurance coverage are all predicted as socially devastating to the "faith" of the people- in the government. Another aspect being discussed is an alleged terrorist-type mentality of organizing computer hackers- to take advantage of any confusion to enter into mainframe terminals and confiscate or delete classified information, change military coding, legal records etc. all available if even only "some" of these difficulties manifest. MAINSTAY OF THEIR MISSION (EMERGENCY SERVICES) and OURS! Whether or not we choose to take the intensity of these anticipated difficulties into thoughtful account, any degree of breakdown in modern society will tend to cause a greater mass of people insecurity and fear for their families and wealth. Provision of basic necessities that are the MAINSTAY MISSION of the Red Cross, Fema and other agencies mandated for Federal funding- will also be likely sought out by members of the Vaisnava community everywhere- we should offer our teachings of Krsna Consciousness at this time by the rendering of service to humanity as taught to us by His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada- in the practice of distributing PRASADAM, FOOD FOR LIFE.
