Marathon Fever Captures Iskcon Juhu

BY NAYANA-RANJANA DAS

INDIA, Dec 17 (VNN) — In what could be termed as one of the most successful December marathons in the history of ISKCON, the devotees of ISKCON Juhu have already sold around 100,000 Gitas in just 15 days. The target which in the beginning of the marathon was 150,000 Gitas is now looking small and will be easily crossed in another week's time. (150,000 Gitas is anyway just 1% of the 15 to 18 million people in Mumbai). We at the BBT are having a tough time supplying the books as the orders are pouring in from all directions. We pray that this transcendental competition between the BBT and the ISKCON Juhu sankirtana devotees gives pleasure to H.D.G. Srila Prabhupada and all the Vaisnavas.

The credit for this great success goes to the Juhu temple management, which took upon itself to plan (& push) for this marathon from June itself. Also the devotees collecting for Vidya Dan play an important role in this effort. The Gitas are selling for Rs.30 subsidized only Rs.10 below the BBT price, from the money given by the people donating for Vidya Dan.

And of course, the book distributors are the most magnanimous souls going out for almost 14 hours everyday. There are roughly 14 parties of book distributors. Four are TSKP's and ten parties are selling books through book tables in Mumbai. In Mumbai around 70,000 Gitas have been distributed and 30,000 Gitas have been sold by the four TSKP's. Everyday around 4000 Gitas are sold in Mumbai. Each party is averaging around 300 Gitas per day. Every morning is a very ecstatic moment for Shri Shri Radha Rasabihariji, Srila Prabhupada and all the Vaisnavas when the book-scores are announced.

Next Report on 31st December. Haribol!
