 What Happened In 1971? BY SAT-SANGA DAS USA, Mar 3 (VNN) - Here's food for thought on the influence of book distribution. Prior to 1971 there was generally chanting and prasadam distribution. Now in 1971 and beyond something played a key role in the growth of ISKCON.
Notice the slow increasing of the number of devotees for the years 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970. Then something happens in 1971 I believe the nail was hit on the head in the following: One day in 1971, while driving back to the temple after chanting in downtown San Francisco, two brahmacaris stopped at a local service station for gas. When the attendant came to the window for money, one of the devotees (Buddhimanta) showed him a "Krsna" book. the Attendant seemed interested, and the two devotees began preaching the glories of Krishna consciousness.
