Message From Bhakta Dasa
BY BHAKTA DASA
INDIA, Nov 29 (VNN) Dear Maharajas and Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and all those who are following in the footstep of our great acarya.
Many of you may be aware, that I was arrested on August 21, 2000 along with Italian devotee Mandali Bhadra dasa and charged with gang-raping a six year old girl, Tulsi devi, daughter of one Slovakian woman Maria Schmidova (29) aka (a)Mangala devi.
This case developed due to the was the Indian law is currently set up. Today, any woman present in India, may go to a police station and file a complaint of rape against any man, and that man must be arrested and held without bail for at least four months "investigation" period. This is the law! Only on he basis of her statement, with no other evidence this is done.
In our case, as the woman making the accusation is a foreigner, and three of the four men accused are foreigners also, the case has made headlines, and this has hampered the impartiality of the "investigation".
It appears from the police case diary, that rather than seek facts and truth, the police have gone out of their way to find ways and means to try and convict 100% innocent men.
While, the defense attorneys are highly doubtful of the prosecution's ability to get convictions, the case is certainly going forward to court, and may be pending for many years to come.
The real victims in this case are the four men, as their lives are ruined. Their lives have been shattered in ways that make death look preferable most of the time.
No one condones child abuse, but in this case there has not been any child abuse. It is a fictitious and vicious plot of a woman who had her heart broken in a love affair. Two independent medical reports confirm the child has never been raped. She is every bit the innocent virgin she was the moment she left her mother's womb!
The devotees imprisoned are quite helpless, they are not rich, they have no ability to get proper legal counsel, and they have no capacity to communicate whatsoever.
If the world of devotees does not band together and protest this huge injustice, then it is possible that four men could rot for many years in a facility you would never allow your dog to enter.
Please, be merciful, and take a few moments from your busy lives to write and send letters to the authorities in India asking them to look very carefully into this particular case. Due to the very bad publicity Iskcon has received recently, the authorities are suspicious of everyone ever connected with Iskcon. This is understandable, and Maria took advantage of this mental frame.
Here once again is the contact information for you to write to. Many of you must know Bhakta dasa as he has been a very active Krishna Bhakta for over 31 years, always dedicated to the service of the devotees.
Here is the contact information for you to write your protests to in India and in the USA.
