SOUTH AFRICA, Feb 12 (VNN) — The world leader of the Hare Krishna Movement, His Holiness Swami Krishnapada, today inaugurated the Selfless Love Project run by the Hare Krishna Food for Life project. He also launched the Stop Raping Our Children Campaign at the Snake Park Informal Settlement in Soweto.

The Selfless Love project, which operates from SABC premises in Auckland Park, is a humanitarian activity which caters for the feeding of underprivileged children who come on conducted tours of the SABC. The Higher Taste Restaurant in the SABC, run by the Hare Krishna Movement, caters for the children on a daily basis. Plans are presently underway to expand the project in order to distribute free meals to schools, which are not presently touring the SABC.

The Stop Raping Our Children Campaign, run in conjunction with Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), is presently working in the Snake Park Informal Settlement in Soweto, where the highest number of child rapes in Gauteng has been reported. The campaign aims to bring to the attention of the relevant authorities and the Government the seriousness of child rapes in South Africa. Children as young as three months are getting raped in different parts of the country.

RAU has joined the Selfless Love project in its fight against child molestation in the Soweto area. RAU's social welfare department is offering its counselling services to the victims of child rape, and to the mothers of the children.

His Holiness, who is aware and concerned about the plight of these children, will be addressing different communities and leaders on this issue. The Food for Life project is hoping to feed the 10 000 residents at the settlement in the near future.

Swami Krishnapada, who is based in the United States, will be in South Africa from 23 - 29 September to meet with various leaders, including former President, Mr Nelson Mandela.
