Sankirtan In The City

BY UPANANDA DAS

LA, USA, Jul 18 (VNN) — (see also VNN Story "LA Math Devotee In Critical Condition")

We are just now bringing in one of two devotees that barely survived the horror at the Santa Monica Farmer's Market yesterday. The Los Angeles Gaudiya Math devotees were performing Harinam and collecting donations of vegetables and fruits when an 86 year old man put his foot to the gas pedal in his car and careened through a crowded market hitting two devotees among many others, many of whom left the world in an instant.

Bhakta Dan Farina a former marine was lifted by helicopter to Marin Luther King Hospital as medics were not sure if he would survive. Miraculously he came out today with only bruises although he flew over the car and thought for sure that his spleen and lung were damaged. The other devotee Abhirama, did not fare so well. He had two legs broken as well as an arm and other complications.

Fortunately for the rest of the Sankirtan devotees there was no harm as they had taken the chanting of the Lord's names down another street at the time.

Tommorrow young Abhirama who is at the UCLA Hospital in Westwood goes for surgery on his arm where the doctors have decided to place a motor to carry out the arm functions.

The Temple can be reached by calling 310-450-5371 or emailing purebhakti@hotmail.com.

We shall be visiting Abhirama daily. He was unable to speak today to us, but hopefully in a few days we will have some news of his recovery.
