Week Long Janmastami Festival In Alachua

 NEW RAMAN RETI, ALACHUA, FLORIDA, Aug 26 (VNN) — Alachua is the largest community of devotees on the planet outside of India, with over 600 devotees living in and around this tiny, North Central Florida town. Festivals here draw people from Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, and some even as far away as North Carolina. Over 2000 devotees and guests are expected for the upcoming festivals due to the fact that these festivals fall on a Memorial Day weekend.
A myriad of events are scheduled to enliven the community and increase our attraction to the Supreme Lord. First there will be Srila Prabhupada remembrances by Sruta Kirti Prabhu. This will no doubt release a flood of memories from the many disciples of Srila Prabhupada who reside here in the Alachua area.
Mid-week there will be an evening for the youth including bhajans, discussions and a drama entitled The Brahman & the Cobbler, performed by the youth drama group. Friday will get everyone geared up with a 24 hour kirtan which will flow right into mangal arati on Janmastami Day. Simultaneously, bhajan groups will help the Gainesville Hare Krishna Center crew distribute invitations to thousands of students to come to the festival. Shuttle vans will be available free to all guests.
The week will have its grand finally with a glorious tribute to His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
These festivals provide the spiritual 'peak experiences' that we all hanker for in life, said festival chairperson, Bhadra Prabhu. By Srila Prabhupada's grace we have learned about so many ways to glorify Krishna and revive our dormant love for Him.
