My Generation Letter

FROM MY GENERATION MAGAZINE

USA, Aug 6 (VNN) — The AARP Flagship magazine, the most widely read periodical in the US of the baby boomers, published a letter from a devotee in response to their comprehensive article on the child abuse Turley case. They only publish seven letters from the many thousands that they receive, and this was the only one regarding the article:

Krishna Coverage

"I have been the director of the Hare Krishna televison arm for over a generation, and I have come to expect biased coverage of the movement in all media. However, Amy Engeler's article ("Testimony," July/August) was not only objective, but she understood the depth of the sincerity of the vast majority of devotees. Her ability to transcend the knee-jerk blame game and to present the issues so fairly is unusual and commendable. To condemn all the philosophy and its practitioners would be to abuse another generation including my 16-year-old son, who considers himself a Hare Krishna. Most of us didn't have a clue as to what happened. The people who perpetrated the abuse should all be incarcerated. - David Shapiro, Topanga, CA."
