Mandala Publishing specializes in high quality art and philosophy books and consumer products focused on ancient Indian cultures and religions. Conveniently located in Novato California, Mandala Publishing offers a unique selling niche with immense growth potential under the right leadership. As a nationally acclaimed publisher and winner of the prestigious Ben Franklin Award 2002, Mandala is known world-wide for high quality content and stunning presentation in the "mind, body, spirit" genre. We seek a team-oriented General Manager to lead all facets of the business: human resources, product development, manufacturing, sales (consumer, bookstore, distributor) and warehouse distribution. The GM reports directly to the Publisher/Creative Director.

Primary Responsibilities

-- To serve as General Manager, providing leadership across all departments.
-- To serve as a Human Resources manager until growth fosters the creation of a dedicated position.
-- To carefully review and ensure accuracy of financial statements as generated by the bookkeeper.
-- To lead the company on a major drive towards e-commerce through networking, application selection and web site development.
-- To reduce costs and streamline processes, utilizing networking and application integration. -- To manage General Manager projects and to oversee/facilitate team projects.
-- To lead company meetings, reward and recognize positive behaviors, and to lead by example.
---To map business development through a written business plan (goals, strategies and objectives.)
-- To lead product development targeted at market segments and specific profit margins. -- To market a dynamic new gift line.
-- To recognize macro-economic and pop culture trends and to modify corporate strategy as needed.
-- To work with a 5 person Board of Directors, with one primary Director operating in nearby San Rafael.
-- To work with and be involved in the selection of consultants, editors, authors and artists.

Qualifications:

-- Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership position within the publishing industry.
-- Proven leadership: listening, flexibility, inspiration and integrity. References required.
-- Financial experience, in the range of $1mill-$10mill annual sales.
-- Inventory and fulfillment experience.
-- Excel and QuickBooks using inventory features, highly recommended. PowerPoint a plus.
-- Word, Gold Mine or any type of customer relationship management software.
-- Technology: "big picture" expertise with computers: hardware, software, networking, the Internet and e-commerce.
-- Respect for a spiritual culture and spiritually driven company philosophy.
-- Excellent written and verbal skills.
-- A rooted belief in working quickly and urgently.
-- A passionate desire to build the business based on the customer's wants and needs.
