Alachua Narayan Maharaja Festival
BY ALACHUA FESTIVAL COMMITTEE
ALACHUA, FL, Jun 15 (VNN) This is an announcement about the Alachua festival featuring Srila Narayan Maharaja as the chief guest.
His Holiness Narayana Maharaja will arrive from Jacksonville airport at the house at 5:00pm, Monday June 19th. At that time we will conduct the traditional arrival ceremony and puja, after which Srila Maharaja will give an arrival address. Prasadam will be served afterwards.
The first full day of the festival will be Tuesday June 20th. The typical daily schedule that will be followed every day is as follows: Mangala Aratik will be at 5:30am. Morning walk at 6:30am. Morning lecture at 7:30 am. Breakfast at 8:30am. Gaudiya seminar or workshop 10:00am to 12:00 noon. Lunch prasadam 12:30pm. Free time. Evening kirtan 5:30pm. Lecture by Srila Maharaja 6:00pm. Evening feast 7:30pm.
The last full day of the festival will be Sunday June 25. That evening Srila Maharaja will deliver his final lecture. There will also be a play on that evening.
Maharaja and his party will leave for Jacksonville airport at 4:00am to catch a 7:10 flight to Baltimore, where they will spend the night at the house of Agraya prabhu. In the morning they will depart for London.
In Alachua we will serve breakfast and lunch on Monday June 26 for anyone who has remained to say good-bye or help with the maha clean-up.
We have made an arrangement with the Travelers Inn motel on US Highway 441 near I-75 for devotees to receive a discount rate of $44.99 plus tax per night for a double room. We selected this motel because it has just refurnished every room with new beds, furniture, etc, and because it has the best pool in town. Because it is very hot, devotees will want to swim in the afternoon. It is about 2 miles from the festival site.
If you want to stay at the motel, we encourage you to make an advance booking by calling 904 462-2244. Be sure to say you are with the Narayan Maharaja Krishna party to get the special rate. You may have to give a credit card to make a booking, although usually a booking without a credit card will be held until 6:00pm on the evening of expected arrival. These motel rooms are going a lot faster than we anticipated. so we suggest you book in advance with them. Be sure to specify you want a double room. They generally allow four adults per double room. A double room has two double beds. A single room has one queen size bed.
We also have two camp sites, one at Damodari's house (904 462-4151) and another at Nandani's house (904 418-0024). The site at Nandini's house is better for Spanish-speaking devotees. No accommodation is available at the festival site. Accommodation at the festival site is reserved for Srila Maharaja and his immediate party only.
We are arranging drama plays. We hope to present plays on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
The schedule of darshans with Maharaja has not yet been finalized, but we have scheduled 45-minute group darshans for the following: Prabhupada disciples; ladies; children; Spanish-speaking devotees; Portuguese-speaking devotees, disciples.
If you are flying in, try to coordinate your arrival at Jacksonville (JAX) airport to coincide with Srila Maharaja's arrival time of 2:00pm June 19. We will have sufficient number of vehicles available at the airport at that time to transport anyone arriving back to Alachua, 90 miles distant.
In order to defray costs, we are asking attendees to donate $50 per adult to cover the cost of bhoga, tent, etc. This is because the festival is self-financing. This fee includes three meals per day. If you are not staying the entire week, then you may want to donate something like $9 per day. There will be a registration table at the festival site. The staff at this table will also help you with your accommodation needs.
For more information you can telephone Anuradha dasi on 904-462-0569 or 352-317-4076 or e-mail jala@cdoctor.com. The festival is being organized by the Narayan Maharaja Alachua Festival Committee, made up of disciples of Srila Maharaja.
