WORLD January 11, 2000 VNN5253 Related VNN Stories The Potency Of The Holy Name BY TULSI KRSNA DAS  CEBU, PHILIPPINES, Jan 11 (VNN) — (Jan. 5 2000) All the older devotees and the new initiates were all rushing their way on the white sands of Costa Bella to have the last darshan with Srila Narayan Maharaj. Srila Gurudev was then doing his japa along the beach. When he saw that the devotees have already come, he started to come near. Then seeing me he said, " What are you doing? Why are you hiding your face on that blackbox (my video camera )?" and everybody laughed.Srila Gurudev took his seat and asked everyone, "How are you doing? Everybody okay? Everybody happy?" After seeing that everybody was comfortable His Divine Grace started a narration: "There was once a man whose son was bitten by a snake. At once he took the dying boy to his Gurudev. Unfortunately, his Gurumaharaj was not at home. Only one of the man's godbrothers was there whom he asked to do something. But his godbrother hesitated saying 'What can I do? I am just your godbrother?' But, oh the man obliged him to do something anyhow. Then the godbrother took a slate and started to write 'KRSNA', then wash the board and collected the water in a bowl. This he did THREE TIMES. He then gave the bowl to the boy's father saying that he should let the boy drink it. Following the direction of his godbrother at once the boy was revived! The man thanked his godbrother saying, 'Indeed you are as powerful as our Gurumaharaj!' When their Gurumaharaj came home, he learned of the incident, and to everyone's surprise, the Guru asked the disciple to at once to leave his ashram saying 'Go away and don't ever come back again!' Everybody in the village was shocked at the reaction of the Maharaj and they asked the Guru why? Shouldn't he be grateful that his disciple did a miraculous fit? Then the Gurumaharaj spoke. "He wrote the name 'Krsna' three times. He should have written KRSNA only ONCE!" Then Srila Narayan Maharaj said, "You should have strong faith in the name of Krishna. Because His name is Himself. But you have to chant sincerely for you to understand this." Then Gurudev continued, "One day the Guru handed a small glittering object to his disciple and asked him to let someone estimate the price of that object. But he reminded the disciple that he should only find the estimated value and never sell it. The disciple went to the market and asked a lady who was selling vegetable leaves. The lady said, 'Oh, this looks nice. I can have my son play with it. I will pay you a bundle of my leaves for this!' The disciple went back to his Guru and said, 'Gurudev, the lady vendor said that she will pay us a bundle of leaves for this object, come let us sell it to her!' The Guru said, 'Don't be foolish. Go find a jeweler and ask the price of this object.' The disciple then found a jeweler who then said, 'I can give you lahks and lahks of gold for this!' He went back to his Gurudev and told him that they can have lahks and lahks of gold for the glittering object and begged the Guru to sell it now. The Guru again said, 'Don't be foolish. Go, bring it to the King!' Going to the palace, the disciple showed the object to the ministers of the King. After consulting with his advisers the King said that he would exchange his kingdom with for glittering stone! The disciple rushed back to his Gurudev and said, 'We can have the king's kingdom for this! At once we should give this in exchange for the kingdom, Gurudev!' Then the Guru smiled, 'With this stone we can have lahks and lahks of kingdoms with much greater splendor.' After saying this, the Guru threw the glittering stone into the sea. Then Srila Narayan Maharaj continued chanting: "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare... this Maha-Mantra is like a cintamani... It will give you so many things, it has so much potency. But we only want the loving service for Radha and Krishna... Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare."
