USA March 30, 1999 VNN3457 See Related VNN Stories IRG Rama Festival - Grand Success! BY IRG USA, Mar 30 (VNN) — The IRG celebrated Rama Navami (the Appearance of Lord Sri Ramacandra) in "Grand Style" this evening in downtown Gainesville, Florida. Their Lordships Sri Rama, Sita devi, Sri Laxman and Hanuman presided over the event in their magnificent murti forms. At the festival we had such distinguished guests as Kalakanta prabhu (GBC secretary), Balavanta prabhu, Sundarupa prabhu and his good wife Mother Sudarma (GBC), Brahmatirtha prabhu, Bhagavata prabhu, Sarva Saci prabhu (T.P. Gainesville) and many others. The IRG would like to thank Yogi Goswami and the Indian Hindu Student Council for allowing the use of their ICEC Hall. The event was hosted at the local Indian Community Centre and was attended by about 150 - 175 people. The upper-hall was packed out and the devotees were treated to bhajans from the IRG and then by the Indian community. After the bhajans we had a delightful Rama play by the IRG drama group which moved everyone's heart. We then had kirtan, aroti and some sombre readings and speeches. One elderly Indian gentleman who claimed that he has been traveling to the USA for 40 years, came forward to say that this was the best festival that he has ever been to in USA. This was followed by a delicious feast for all. This superb prasadam was cooked by Chandra Vidya and Mother Jarati and was cooked in our Alachua ISKCON kitchen. This is an excellent example of cooperation for the sake of preaching. A number of Srila Prabhupada's books were sold, with one top professor (Scientist)from Florida University taking a 'Science of Self Realisation' and giving a nice donation also. Yep, we all had too much fun here in Gainesville this evening. Following this encouraging success the IRG now plans to stage more festivals in the future here in sunny Gainesville.
