USA February 10, 1999 VNN2990 Public Sale Of Sacred Land BY DEVOTEES OF NEW TALAVAN USA, Feb 10 (VNN) — This is an open letter to Srila Acharyapada. This is also an open letter to all devotees, Hindu's and anyone in the service of the Lord. Dear Jayapataka Maharaja, Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. We have just recently come across a disturbing piece of information that we believe will have a very negative impact on the future of this, Srila Prabhupada's, New Talavan farm project. The board of directors of New Talavan, as we have heard, are on the verge of selling off 200 to 400 acres of the Deities property to "karmi's". This is disturbing because once sold we will probably never get it back. There would be no questions of subjecting the public sale of this land to the 26 covenants which devotee purchasers of NT land have to sign. This is prime hunt club country for deer hunting in this part of Mississippi. We have already had years of grief from hunters running dogs and deer across New Talavan properties. Now the most likely purchaser of this remote acreage ( the parcels in question have no direct road access ) would be deer hunters. There have already been cows stolen from New Talavan. Who is to stop stray bullets over the cows and devotee's heads. We have already had our hay barn burned by as yet un-apprehended local arsonists. Can you imagine drunken barbecue orgies just a few hundred yards from the farm and the cows. As a land trustee you may know that the entire farm will finally be paid for within a few months. Now the board is already thinking of selling off this land. Devotee's have been purchasing and developing this land but it is a slow process. No one has that much money here. This land should be held for the future. We feel that you should be made aware of this. Hopefully you can come to the rescue of the cows, the Deities, the land and the devotees and stop this craziness.
