USA 10/13/1998 - 2353 Four Celebrations In One

This coming Sunday Oct 18th at the Radha Krishna temple in SpanishFork, Utah, there will be four celebrations observed on the one day. From 4PM there will be a fire sacrifice (havan) to usher in the Indian New Year(Diwali) After the havan Caru das will narrate the wonderful story ofKrishna's lifting Govardhana hill, and then the Lord as Giridhari will beoffered a special arotik (Govardhana Puja).
The Indian version ofThanksgiving is called Anna Kuta (literally, "heaps of grain") That will becelebrated with no less than 108 different cooked preparations being placedon the altar. In the final observance, a live cow calf will enter thetemple and be decorated with garlands, and offered respect for all that herspecies does for mankind in the way of producing milk, butter, cheese,yogurt etc. By about 6 pm the crowd will enjoy a huge vegetarian feast ofKrishna prasadam.
