GBC Should Take Ultimate Responsibility, Not Ultimate Authority

BY GADADHAR DASA

EDITORIAL, Mar 17 (VNN) — Dear Prabhus: PAMHO, AGTSP, and Hare Krishna. In their message to the devotees, GBC is once again claiming all authority while refusing to be accountable and responsible for what they do and they do not do. Also, GBC continues to make their once a year impersonal false and empty propaganda like "Uniting Srila Prabhupada's Family" or "we are sorry, we made mistake for 20 years but now we are on track".

Please note that Srila Prabhupada actually gave very little authority to the GBCs. However, GBC was given lot of responsibility. Taking responsibility as authority has wrecked the havoc.

For example, each temple was incorporated as a separate entity and was to be managed by Temple President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Temple Commander. GBCs, and Sannyasis were to supervise and guide. Rittviks were given one more function than the GBCs and that was to approve candidates for initiation. Note that the Temple Presidents were to perform fire yajna for initiation ceremonies.

Thus practically all operational control was given to the local temple officers. Guiding and supervising responsibility was given to the GBCs, Rittviks, and Sannyasis.

However, what has happened for the past 21 years is that the GBC has taken control of every thing in the name of being the "Ultimate Managing Authority". What was given as the responsibility to Guide, Supervise, and set good example was twisted to mean "total control" by the GBC even when so many of them miserably fell short of any Vaisnava standard.

(1) Why doesn't the GBC take the ultimate responsibility for what has gone wrong?

(2) Why doesn't the GBC take the responsibility for 90% of Srila Prabhupada's disciples who have left or have been kicked out by them and by their dirty deeds?

(3) Where were/are the responsible GBCs when 100s of children and women were abused and raped?

(4) Where were/are the so called humble followers of Srila Prabhupada when Back To Godhead sale has gone down from 1 million in 1975 to less than 10, 000 now? Actually, BTG was shut down in 1990 or so for more than a year and the recent news from Mayapur says that BTG is in trouble and has hired some consultants.

(5) In 1970s, North American Temples were flourishing and were filled with hundreds of enthusiastic devotees. Now most of these temples are becoming like dead Christian churches. So where are the responsible GBCs?

Just making resolutions and pronouncements once a year from Mayapur that "we are sorry, we made a mistake" is not enough. No body is buying your once a year impersonal propaganda. Who ever was responsible to kick out a devotee has to go to that devotee and admit his dirty deeds clearly and then can ask for forgiveness.

Since last 5 years GBC has been making propaganda of "Uniting Srila Prabhupada's Family". What is the accomplishment of this program? Hardly few have come back, most of them were bribed by the GBC with some post or position. On the other hand, you have kicked out hundred of more devotees within the last 5 years while you make empty propaganda of "Uniting Srila Prabhupada's Family".

Again, where were/are the so called humble and bonafide representatives of Srila Prabhupada during the last 21 years of falsehood and self proclaimed sainthood?

This on going charade of lies, dishonesty, and heavy handedness, and tactics of hang the victims and protect the criminals has destroyed every thing and yet you claim to be "humble and bonafide"? Who can be more shameless than you so called self proclaimed "humble and bonafide" followers? Answer all the question raised above and then claim to be "humble and bonafide".

Now your documents "GBC's message to the Devotees" states:

In particular the body agreed to the following conclusions:

1) That the creation of the "Zonal Acharya" system after the departure of Srila Prabhupada deviated from the principle of the ultimate management authority of the GBC, introducing a tendency to view our society as a confederation of independent guru-disciple groups rather than an integrated union of devotees.

2) That the true guiding principle for ISKCON governance must be that, in every respect, the authority to accept disciples, or to act as a manager and/or officer of ISKCON must be firmly understood as derived from the sanction of the GBC body.

3) That the principle of division of work according to compatible modes of work based on training and individual propensity should be utilized to reform and improve the GBC.

(end quote)

This shows that you all still continue to claim all authority but when questions are raised about your accountability and responsibility you start playing dumb or start shouting "do not commit Vaisnava aparadha".

Your praising of each other is like mutual praising of camels and asses. Once, there was a marriage at the house of the camels and the asses were invited to perform the "peace ceremony - Shanti Patha". They praised each other lavishly. Camels praised the voice of asses and asses praised the beauty of camels.

I hope you understand the story and wake up. Thank you and Hare Krishna.

Your friend and humble servant,
Gadadhar Dasa.
