EDITORIAL December 30, 1998 VNN2760 See Related VNN Stories Amazonian Ideas BY PAYONIDHI DAS EDITORIAL, Dec 30 (VNN) — Dear Prabhus and Maharajas, please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Gaura Nitai. This year has been an overall bad year for ISKCON, with the falldown of some sannyasis. On top of this the women movement within ISKCON has demanded equal rights on all levels. There is a desire to make women Gurus, GBCs and TPs, however that this contradicts Srila Prabhupada's instructions some don't care about. Srila Prabhupada was very clear on women's position. However instead of being encouraged to be chaste women , women in ISKCON are now being told to be aggressive,and hungry for power and prestige. The idea that women should follow their husbands has been lost, instead the divorce rate is increasing daily in ISKCON due to such Amazonian ideas. Women in ISKCON has often been exploited by various leaders, and now that they are loosing control they want women to fit into the karmi ideas of women's position. However Srila Prabhupada recommended women be married and taken care of by their husbands. But certain leaders avoid these instructions, and have women recite international laws of UN that states men and women are equal (and there is no God or soul). There is adherence to dharma, and if a temple follow real dharma for women some aggressive feminist comes and attacks the TP, and the women for being brainwashed. There is a push now for 50 % women on GBC and "Chakra" has become a tool for the feminist movement. Indeed a sad year for ISKCON.
