EDITORIAL 09/24/1998 - 2269 ...(See Related VNN Stories) Apologize to Madonna and Vaisnavas
Editorial (VNN) - by Vaisnava das
Recently Madonna made an attempt to offer something to Krsna. As imperfectas her offering may have been, it still was a step in the right direction.
Her first response from the vaisnava world, as covered by the karminewspapers worldwide, was that the Vaisnava world was offended by hervideo. The press release issued world wide cited the World VaisnavaAssociation as the umbrella group calling for an apology. (see VNN story 2229)
Later the vice president of the WVA, His Holiness B.V. Tripurari Maharaja, issued another statement giving Madonna his blessings and stating it wasonly one organization within the WVA which had organized the campaignasking Madonna to apologize (see VNN story 2239). Unfortunately His Holiness's statement didnot get as much coverage as the original one condemning Madonna. Obviouslythe organization in question cast a bad light on the WVA and GaudiyaVaisnavas in general.
It is my humble opinion that the person or persons responsible forlaunching the negative campaign against Madonna should apologize to bothMadonna and all Vaisnavas worldwide they misrepresented.
A statement of apology sent to the press and a private letter sent to Madonnawould most likely correct any offense committed.
Of course we do not wish to force anyone to do anything against their willbut we would like to gives those responsible for this injustice a chance tomake it right, therefore an apology is necessary.
It is one thing to expect some one like Madonna to apologize for an offensecommitted in ignorance and something else to humbly ask another Vaisnava orVaisnavas to correct a wrong.
Sincerely,
Vaisnava das
