World Famous Journalist Issues Ultimatum to GBC

USA (VNN) - from IRG

The recent events in Europe involving Harikesa's suspension and his defiance of that resolution raise the question: Does the GBC have any control over ISKCON leaders? The following email communications highlight another such situation:

This is in continuation to my earlier e-mail which I sent you through Braja Bihari Das (Vrindavan, Vice President) informing you about the meeting of HH NY Swami with my parents on 10th Aug. 1998 at Vrindavan.

This meeting lasted for three and half-hours during which my parents conveyed their displeasure to him. They made it clear that his arbritary and rustic ways of dealing with our family members has caused lot of agony. HH NY Swami could not explain his conduct. He wanted to know what we want. We told him categorically that he should resign as the Chairman and Trustee of our family trust at Lucknow as per the orders of the GBC. The order which his power of attorney HG Sudershan Das had accepted on July 24th1998 at Bombay meeting of the GBC. He had assured the committee that HH NY Swami will sign the resignation letter on Aug.10th 1998 on his arrival from USA. Instead of doing that he asked for one more week to do the needful.

It is very disappointing that still he has not done anything. You should appreciate that I have been waiting for a long time for him to act. My patience is getting exhausted. It will be very difficult for me to remain silent spectator of his irresponsible and provocative behaviour. Please act immediately and ensure that he abides by the order of the GBC with immediate effect. I dont want to create further unpleasantness in the society. After Harikesh Swamis latest episode you should also realise what happens if GBC gets too slow in taking action.

HH NY swami is currently staying at Amritsar with Mr.Naval Khanna at phone no. (phone number removed). Please treat it as most urgent.

Yesterday after sending the e-mail communication to you I saw your e-mail message of Aug.8th1998. I was shocked to read it. Through this you have done complete somersault. At Bombay all of you had categorically said that GBC body has all powers and no one can afford to disobey the order of this body, if one wants to stay in ISKCON. On 15 Aug.1998 HH Gopal Krishna Maharaj also reassured me the same in Vrindavan. Now I get the following message from you , I finally spoke with Nava Yogendra Maharaj personally, at our Los Angeles Ratha Yatra (August 2nd). He denies everything and refuses to follow the executive committee directive to resign from the trust of the temple in Lucknow or to resign as the candidate for GBC for Lucknow. This shows that the GBC has lost control over him. This is unfortunate.

I feel cheated again. If the GBC has not lost the control over him then it appears that the double game is being played with me. This is not fair. I am writing this note to you as a final warning. If HH NY Swami does not abide by the GBC Executive Committee order dated July 24th,1998 (Bombay) within next 72 hours from now, I will be forced to start a full campaign against the bogus gurus of ISKCON including HH NY Swami. None of the ISKCON members anywhere in the world except the GBC will be responsible for the damage to the society. You should appreciate that it is my professional and moral duty to educate people about evils in the society. ISKCONs bogus gurus are the biggest spiritual evils in Srila Prabhupad's noble mission. They need to be reformed or exposed. If the GBC fails to reform them, media persons across the globe will be too glad to expose them.
