Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura's Sri Caitanya Siksamrta

BY KESIDAMANA DAS

PUBLICATION, Oct 23 (VNN) — Dear Vaisnavas,

We are happy to announce the publication of Srila Sac-cid-ananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura's Sri Caitanya-siksamrta, translated by Sriman Sarvabhavana dasa for the appreciation of the Vaisnava devotees.

In London, 23rd September 1969, on the appearance day celebration of Srila Bhaktivinoda, Srila Prabhupada gave a lecture on the life and teachings of the Thakura. In the lecture, Srila Prabhupada explained:

"So Bhaktivinoda Thakura happens to be an acarya, one of the acaryas. And he has left behind him many books-Caitanya-siksamrta, Jaiva-dharma. These are very important books. They're in Bengali and Sanskrit ...So we are trying to present Bhaktivinoda Thakura's books also in an English translation.

Gradually you will get them."

The translator, HH Bhanu Swami, needs no introduction, having a distinguished record of accurately translating a wide range of the Vaisnava works into English. These works have illustrated his expertise in Bengali and Sansktit.

The present offering, Sri Caitanya-siksamrta, was first published in 1886 and enjoyed immediate acclaim amongst the learned community of the time. The book wonderfully evaluates all categories of philosophy, illustrates their pitfalls, and then shows how these philosophies may progress to find their ultimate fulfillment in Vaisnavism. Further, the practical application in human society of all levels of Vaisnavism is methodically elucidated. The timeless knowledge expounded within Sri Caitanya-siksamrta only appears more relevant in this modern era when fanatic idealogues insistently propagate their speculations with the barrel of a gun as a substitute for sensibility and compassion.

Sri Caitanya-siksamrta is printed at the excellent Thomson Press of New Delhi who have done an excellent binding job. The book is in a 9 inch by 7 inch format. In the Siksamrta there are original paintings, plus some rare ancient paintings and rare photographs. One of the painting within Sri Caitanya-siksamrta was commissioned by Maharaja Prataparudra himself and shows Sri Mahaprabhu with his intimate associates studying the Bhagavatam by the Narendra Svarova.

A comfortably sized font is employed on a high quality paper. The important Sanskrit terminology and all Sanskrit diacrtics are included throughout the text, introduction and preface. The books have a bookmark ribbon and full colour dust jackets over a gold-embossed hard cover. The Sri Caitanya-siksamrta is 380 pages.

In our humble efforts to fulfil the desire of Srila Prabhupada and serve the Vaisnavas, we pray for your blessings,

Hare Krsna, all enquires to Kesidamana dasa.
