EDITORIAL December 11, 1999 VNN5059 Related VNN Stories Disagreeing With Sri Rama Dasa BY PARAMANANDA PURI DASA EDITORIAL, Dec 11 (VNN) — Dear Prabhus, Maharajas and Matajis. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I have read two letters of Sri Rama Prabhu on Chakra and I find the content so ignorant, that I feel I have to respond. In one letter he talks about why ISKCON and Narayana Maharaja is different, and ISKCON has a different "Rasa". Actually Srila Prajana Kesava Maharaja was Srila Prabhupada's sannyas guru and dear godbrother. Also Srila Prabhupada had a very loving relationship with Srila Narayana Maharaja. The closeness is very obvious except for those who don't want to see it. And talking about Rasa leads us in to the subject of child abuse, where Sri Rama is discouraging children that were molested to take ISKCON to court. Well, many leaders in ISKCON have ignored the problem and just swept it under the carpet if child molestation took place. "Oh, these things only happened in the west", said Gopala Krsna Maharaja, but it happened in Vrindavana too, his own zone. Did he have the offenders thrown in jail? No. What to speak about Mayapur where two so-called sannyasis and one of them, one of the eleven Gurus molested children, was he thrown in jail? Never!!!! Why not? I talked to Harikesa Swami, who was then my Guru, on a roof in Mayapur in March 1986. He just told me to better not speak like this around Bhavananda's disciples, who may beat me up, indirectly supporting a child molester. Several other so-called sannyasis have been caught molesting children in ISKCON. So why not be honest about what has been going on? The enemy is within ISKCON and it is certainly not Narayana Maharaja whi is a well-wisher of Srila Prabhupada's movement. Is this ISKCON's "Rasa", Sri Rama??? Certainly not what Srila Prabhupada taught!!! If these children that were molested and have now grown up sue ISKCON, they can't be blamed, because they where not protected by ISKCON leaders. I suggest that all leaders that have been responsible for covering up child abuse, step down from GBC and any leadership in ISKCON. This will be the first step in getting some sanity. Maybe some of these children that were abused will reconsider their lawsuits against ISKCON. Yes, they are suing Srila Prabhupada's movement so those leaders that were in charge in the zone of the time of abuse should be paying out of their bank account. Not that the temples get sold and the so-called leaders keep their funds. And if there is old cases of child molestation, let them be opened up and the culprits that molested children thrown in jail . Prabhupada said too hang them, and them throw them out, but we can't do that or just throw them out without punishment. So the way is to involve legal authorities in the country of abuse. In some cases it may be good to trick these individuals back to the country of crime and then have them arrested there, and press charges.
