EDITORIAL September 17, 1999 VNN4739 Comment on this story The Extreme Importance Of Vedic Historical Research BY VRINDAVAN DAS EDITORIAL, Sep 17 (VNN) — There are many people debating this or that philosophical point etc. But practically no one is publicizing the historical and scientific truths about Vedic History and culure. I admit, it may not be the most enthusing nectar for some, but it is a very important field of work. This is my dedication and this is what the Vediculture egroup is for. http://www.egroups.com/group/vediculture/info.html When I recently posted an article about the Historacity of Lord Krsna, http://www.egroups.com/group/vediculture/198.html? I was a bit surprised that many devotees do not seem to appreciate the importance of this research. The author N.S. Rajaram made a point that most Hindus regard Krsna as an avatar of Vishnu. This is a fact, most Hindus do regard Krsna as an avatar of Vishnu. The author never stated that is what he feels. I personally feel that this point is beyond the scope of the subject matter he was writing about and was quite surprised that that is all some seem to notice. I know Srila Prabhupada would be tremendously pleased that these scientists are verifying the dates of the Mahabharata and Krsna's era to be exactly what the Vedic scriptures say they are, ie. circa 5000 yrs ago. There is currently a major scientific revolution going on in Ancient Indian historical research. Again and again the facts, as they are presented in the Vedic record, are being verified. For anyone to knitpick about doctrine and philosophy, in regards to this research, only causes division and sectarianism. At this time we must be a united front against the powerful and pervasive lobby that does not even recognize the Vedic scriptures to be anything more than barbaric, mythological poetry devised to maintain a social tyranny. Currently, in "mainstream" academic circles, the history of India is nothing more than a story of racist and class oppression of the Light-skinned Aryans over the darker skinned indegionous aboriginal Indians. All the Vedic scriptures are nothing more than tyrannical doctrines designed by higher caste Brahmins to repress the lower castes. Figures like Rama and Krishna are either considered to have never existed or if they did exist they are considered nothing more than Aryan princelings or Tribal chiefs. Paradoxically, Krishna and Rama are both classified as being dark complexioned. The whole modern version of India's history is one of oppression, invasion and domination by the "Vedics" over the peaceful Indian aboriginals. Vedic civilization has been divorced from India's ancient past and all the thousands of archeological sites verifying the extremely advanced nature of India's ancient past has been credited to a Pre-Vedic civilization. One so-called scholar refers to India's Vedic history as "The dark Vedic night that descended upon India after the decline of the glorious and advanced Harrappan civilization." In other words, although there are thousands upon thousands of scientific evidences proving that India had the most advanced civilization in ancient world history, it has all been designated as Pre-Vedic. In fact Vedic culture is accused of being the reason India's ancient civilization declined so rapidly. The picture is so twisted that many South Indians/Dravidians consider themselves to be descendnts of the real Indians from a pre-vedic era. They consider the Ramayana to be a horror story of the Vedic Aryan destruction of the indeginous Indian culure and Lord Rama to be the villian and Ravana the hero of Native aboriginal culture. To consolidate this theory a Temple to Ravana has actually been built and Ravan is worshipped daily. (Its quite Ironic from a Vaishnava perspective because we know Ravana to be an intimate associate of Lord Narayana and is therefore worshipable. Yet the motivation behind this current worship is foolish.) India's ancient history has been so distorted that everything from the real dates of Lord Buddha Avatar, Chanakya, Shankaracharya etc are all called into question. What to speak of India's ancient Pre-history. Fortunately, the truth is coming out. In fact it has already been proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, that India's history is AS IT IS recorded in the Vedic record. Several important books have come out that concretely prove the Vedic record. Among these, worthy of note are "Vedic Aryans and the Origins of Civilization, " "The Politics of History, " "Astronomical Code of the Rig-Veda, " "Search for the Cradle of Civilization, " "Indo-Aryan Invasions: Cultural Myth and Archeological Reality, " "The Problem of Aryan Origins, " "The Aryan Invasion Theory:a Reappraisal." These are just some of the books detailing all the new solid and scientific evidences proving that India's Vedic culture has a minimum date of 12, 000 years, if not more. Another important turning point came when one of the world's leading archeologists, Proffesor Jim Shaffer of Case Western University, called upon the scientific community to begin recognizing the traditions and beliefs of India's people as an important and invaluable tool to understanding the true record of India's ancient history. In other words, Dr Shaffer called upon them to abandon the use of unproven theories to rewrite the history of India and begin accepting the events recorded in the Vedic scriptures as keys to understanding the history of not only India but of the whole world. Any and all devotees of Lord Krishna should try to comprehend ythe significance of all these points. They are scientifically verifying the validity of everything we have been taught by Srila Prabhupada and the other Acharyas. I hope people will recognize the importance of this work and give it the credit that it is due and not be diverted by the differances in the personal spiritual beliefs of the researchers engaged in this invaluable work.
