Learning To See Who Is Advanced And Who Is Not
BY BHAKTA BERND
EDITORIAL, Feb 11 (VNN) In addition to the few words that I had said at the IRG meeting in L.A., I feel it necessary to repeat a few things in the Internet. I personally can understand that many devotees are trying to put Srila Prabhupada back in the center and take initiation from him alone. There have been to many scandals in which the present and past ISKCON-gurus have been involved; and the fact that those among them whom many still trusted repeatedly supported or covered the gurus involved in scandals, made a lot of the devotees lose their faith in them, too. As a result, they wanted to take shelter in the person whom they understood to be a pure devotee - Srila Prabhupada.'
Certainly GBCs and Gurus have acted incorrectly, but that should not lead us to believe that there are no qualified Gurus among us. I personally am convinced that some great souls who are qualified to be Gurus are with us. One of the signs for their advanced position is that they don't step forward repeatedly to tell us that they are Gurus. The real Gurus are meek and humble. I personally think that the present GBCs' and Gurus' handling of large amounts of money, involvement in showy projects and so on has gone to their head and made them act in the mode of passion more than they could handle.
They have to learn to share their power and give more attention to those devotees who may not be great book distributors, money-collectors or 'lifemember-collectors' but who are actually meek and humble. How much money did Gourkisor das Babaji collect, or how many books did he distribute? Or Vamsidas Babaji? Great souls are hard to recognize if we are not advanced. So we have to learn to recognize them.
Trying to serve you,
Bhakta Bernd
