A New Light On Bhagavad Gita Verse 15.7

BY TRIDANDI VIKSHU BHAKTI HRIDOY MANGAL MAHARAJ

EDITORIAL, Oct 25 (VNN) — From the scriptural standpoint, the wise say that three worlds are in existence. Amongst these three, two are in common vision. They are the fully material world and the semi-spiritual or marginal world enlivened by spirit souls in two stages: the eternally freed ones (nitya-mukta) and eternally bound ones (nitya-baddha). The third or primary world is fully spiritually enlivened by the Lord Krishna with his cit potencies or pure devotees, and is called Vaikuntha, Goloka and Vrindavan. There, the undivided ones with different sweet taste are engaged in sweetening the Lord and His devotees for all time in ever newer ways.

The eternally bound souls or jivas under variegated "I-ness" and "my-ness" are suffering in this material world under various kinds of miseries and discomforts like death decay and decompositions, etc. They are mostly averse to God. It is painful to think of them. Lord Krishna speaks very clearly in Gita that these jivas are not His parts and parcels, but only His eternal living potencies or living properties.

They are eternally sheltered in His part and parcel called paramatma, the indwelling monitor of all living entities. These potencies, being averse to the Lord, collect the mind and the other five senses of cognitions, like eyes to expand the seeing facility, ears to expand the hearing facility, nose is to expand the smelling facility, tongue is to expand the tasting facility, and skin is to expand the touching facility, from the material nature of the Lord. These are all material and are meant for individual sense gratification only, leading the conditioned soul into eternal bondage. In Srimad-Bhagavad-Gita, Lord Krishna introduces these averse souls in the following way:

Mamaivamso jiva-loke Jiva-bhutah sanatanah Manah-sasthanindriyani Prakrtisthani karsati (15.7)

This sloka can be parsed as follows:

Jiva-loke mama eva sanatanah amsah (paramatma)* hi virajamanah/ tasya adhisthane, jivah (jiva-bhutah) prakrti-sthani manah sasthani indriyani (ca) karsati/

"My eternal part and parcel, the Paramatma, resides within the world of the jivas. Fully dependent on Him, the conditioned souls collect the mind and six senses from the material nature."

So there is no question of thinking of the jivas as the parts and parcels of God, for they are only parts of God's marginal potency.

One the basic foundation of the following verses from Shrimad bhagvad Gita, Shimad Bhagavatam and Shri Chaitanya-charitamrita, I dare to explain the Gita verse (15/7) to justify the title of this article to oblige all honest enquirers after spiritual life.
