Smaranam

BY ARIJIT DAS

EDITORIAL, Jun 17 (VNN) — This picture was taken in San Francisco, California in 1974. I remember the crowd was very large and we all were having a wonderful time pulling the Rath Cart, dancing and singing the holy names. Most of all we all so happy to be blessed by the association of a true lover of Sri Sri Radha and Krishna.

When the parade ended a large stage waited for AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj to sit and give a talk on the philosophy of Krishna Consciousness which he did. This picture was taken after the talk when Sudama Swami began a very sweet kirtan. As the kirtan progressed it became more and more ecstatic and his Divine Grace looked at my self who was playing the mrdanga and nodded his head as if to say "kick it up a notch."

I then looked at Sudama as I played a little faster then looked behind me to Bahudak and began to play louder and faster. Then the kirtan increased in ecstasy and from behind the stage and through the crowd came Siddha Svarupananda das Goswami. At that moment in the front of the stage he threw his hands in the air like Lord Caitanya and danced so wonderfully and the crowd cheered and encouraged him.

Then the kirtan exploded because His Divine Grace got down from his seat threw his hands in the air and started dancing as well. The kirtan and the ecstasy was overwhelming and cheers and yells of Hari Hari Bol, Jai Jai and Nitai Gour Hari Bol filled the air. This went on for what seemed like 1/2 hour to 45 minutes then His Divine Grace nodded again as if to say enough and the kirtan slowed and ended with the pure lover of Krishna saying respectful prayers to our Guru Varga, Vaisnavas, Sri Sri Radha and Krishna and of course Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His gang.

The feast was incredible. I remember Jayananda das serving the sweet rice with a smile as big as the Rath Cart itself. The halvah that day was the best I have ever had - strawberry with a lot of ghee.

Oh What a wonderful day that was. We were all so happy that so many souls tasted the glories of Sri Krishna Sankirtan.
