Krishna Appearance Day Feast & Program

BY MAYESVARA DASA

CALENDAR, Aug 31 (VNN) — Hello Friends! Please accept my respects and good wishes.

On behalf of the American Vedic Association I am very pleased to announce that at 5:30, on August 31, 2002 at 206 Aliso Street, Ojai California we will be holding a very nice celebration and feast to commemorate the appearance day of Lord Krishna.

Please note that the guest speaker for this event will be the renown Swami B.V. Tripurari who has recently published his own commentary on the Bhagavad Gita which has received outstanding acknowledgments. We want to encourage everyone who has ever had any interest in the Science of Self Realization, as taught in the ancient Vedic Literature from India, to be sure to attend this event. This is a rare opportunity to meet an extraordinary individual and we hope you will be able to attend. We encourage you all to review Swami B.V. Tripurari's accomplishments listed after the salutation to this invitation.

If you need more information you may contact me personally. Persons who would like to learn more about Vegetarian cooking are invited to assist us in the preparation of the feast during the day on Saturday August 31. That is a preprogram event which is both educational and fun.

I hope this finds you all in good health, a content spirit and a mood of divine gratitude.

Your servant,

About Swami Tripurari:

Swami B.V. Tripurari has spent over 30 years as a Hindu monastic. Awarded the renounced order of sannyasa in 1975, Swami has studied under several spiritual masters, including Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and Bhkati Raksaka Sridhara Maharja of the Gaudiya Vedanta lineage. He has been called the Thomas Merton of the modern bhakti tradition and the contemporary voice of Vaisnavism. To date Swami has authored a number of groundbreaking works.

His books include Aesthetic Vedanta: The Sacred Path of Passionate Love, Rasa: Love Relationships in Transcendence, Ancient Wisdom for Modern Ignorance, Tattva-sandarbha: Sacred India's Philosophy of Ecstasy, Joy of Self, Sri Guru Parampara, and Bhagavad-gita: Its Feeling and Philosophy.

Along with his books Swami publishes "Sanga" a weekly internet newsletter. In his newsletter Swami answers questions on Hinduism and spirituality sent to him by readers from all over the globe. Sanga is carried on a number of spiritually oriented websites and is read weekly by over 15,000 people, making it the largest internet newsletter of its kind in Hinduism.

Swami's regular column called "Ask The Swami" is featured on Beliefnet.com the largest commercial non-sectarian religious site on the web. New Age Magazine says: "Beliefnet.com is by far the most sophisticated and diverse spiritual site currently on the web."

When not traveling and teaching Swami lives and writes at Audarya, his hermitage in Northern California. Resting atop a serene 1,400' ridge amidst Northern California's majestic redwoods, Audarya--meaning magnanimity--is a place of overwhelming natural beauty. With the Pacific Ocean on the western horizon and redwood valleys stretching in all directions, it is the perfect place for spiritual practice and contemplation. Located 110 miles north of San Francisco near the Mendocino coast, Audarya began two years ago as a writing and spiritual retreat. Here Swami lives along with a small staff and his two beloved Zebu cows, Bhumi and Dharma.

What people are saying about Swami Tripurari's new edition of Bhagavad Gita: "The most arresting new Gita to cross my desk in the past year is Swami B.V. Tripurari's Bhagavad Gita: Its Feeling and Philosophy, a 600-page tome that fairly oozes Hindu (and Sanskrit) scholarship.

Those willing to undertake the long journey through his profuse text will find it a rewarding one, for Tripurari provides abundant footnotes and citations explaining obscure terminology or references, the end result being a kind of postgraduate course in the cultural, metaphysical, and spiritual teachings inherent in this ancient treasure." Yoga Journal

"Author and poet Swami B.V. Tripurari presents the original Sanskrit lettering, word-by-word transliteration, a persuasive English translation, and extensive commentary providing the context of each passage of the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna. The commentary is clear and contemporary, offering thought-provoking insights for readers of every level of spiritual awareness."

Stillness in Motion

"This book's focus and unique organization promise an in-depth journey into the pivotal Hindu text and offer the interested reader a new perspective."

Bloomsbury Review Magazine

"This is not your mother's Gita! Determination to study the Gita in the larger context of Hindu devotional writing distinguishes Swami Tripurari's edition from the rest of the pack."
