About the Author:
Richard S. Brown was born in 1947 as the only son of  Col. Richard S. Brown, Sr. (USAF retired) and  Elizabeth "Bette" Mae Brown. He enjoyed his first taste of fame as the lead singer of the innovative rock group "The Misunderstood," which rose to stardom in London during the late Sixties. Later he became a disciple of the great Indian Guru Swami Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada and subsequently moved to India to study religion at the holy pilgrimage town of Vrindaban under the expert guidence of Swami Bhakti Hridaya Vana Maharaj. For seven years he lived the strictly ascetic life of a traditional monk and devoted himself entirely to religious practice and public service. During this time he helped build three schools, lectured extensively on religion throughout India, became proficient in Sanskrit and was befriended by the President, Chief Justice, and other prominent Indian dignitaries.

Eventually he became involved in a ruby mine located in Southern India. This experience sparked his interest in gems and inspired him to undertake an in-depth study of the ancient Sanskrit classics dealing with gemology. Combining technical knowledge of gems with the planetary aspects revealed in the ancient texts, Richard Brown began to develop his own unique system of designing auspicious Astral Gemstone Talismans. In 1979, after 12 years in Asia, he returned to America to complete his formal training at the Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A.). Thereafter he returned to Asia, where he has firmly established himself as an international authority on gemstones and a renowned designer of Astral Gemstone Talisman jewelry.

Richard Brown is also the author of several books on astral gemstones and their powers, including the Handbook of Planetary Gemology, Ancient Astrological Gemstones and Talismans, and also an escoteric book on Vaisnava-mysticism, Vraja Rasa Bindu. He has lectured extensively throughout the world on topics of "Planetary Gemology" at conventions and seminars sponsored by gemological as well as by metaphysical and occult associations.

A book based on his life, Misunderstood: A True Adventure Story,  was written in 1988 by the Asia-based American writer Daniel P. Reid. Richard Brown is a resident of Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, where he lives with his Thai wife, Kanitha, and their son, Jiva.

Richard has written about his time spent with his Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada in a memoir called Srila Prabhupada Smarana
